08/08/09 Daniel Ross:
"Marching season of 05-06:
After we performed our, what felt like an amazing performance show at Brunswick OMEA, we all got to the buses and took our uniforms off. Wondering if it had been our last performance of "Ignight", we gathered together. As we waited, one of the senior members started crying, which in turn, created a sort of rippling effect to the point that most everyone was crying. In a kind of silent reflection, we wondered if we had been as amazing as we felt we performed. We then went to the stands to watch the rest of the bands play before the awards ceremony. When the awards ceremony came around, our drum majors were waiting with the others. The announcer began revealing which bands qualified for state finals and when we heard that Valley Forge had made it, we screamed and cheered so loud that he had to pause for a bit. This had been the first time that Valley Forge Marching Band had made it to State Finals. We had practiced and practiced and
practiced, and our practice had finally paid off. This, however, did not mean we were done practicing. We had an extra week after the normal season ended for practicing for the state finals competition in Dublin, Ohio. Our determination and dedication had brought us this far, and we had one more challenge ahead of us. [On] November 4, 2005, we boarded our buses for the long ride that now lay in our way . When we finally arrived, we got ready and warmed up our instruments and ourselves, as it was so cold that night. I remember wearing winter gloves with the fingers cut off under my marching band gloves. Our big moment had finally arrived. Just as we were about to take the field, we looked up in the stands and saw the parents with the GO FORGE signs. After performing our show, we sat back and enjoyed the humble atmosphere and for the last time that season, watched a bunch of band performances we had never seen before. This was the season that
proved that we --the Valley Forge Patriot Marching Band-- were willing and able to make it to States. We had overcome so many obstacles and challenges and had made it so far. "
